I finally got around to reading Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, and wow—what a journey this little orphan boy takes us on! Even though it was written in the 1800s, the story still feels so powerful and moving today.
Reading Oliver Twist felt like stepping into another world—dark at times, but sprinkled with little sparks of hope. Charles Dickens takes us through the life of Oliver, a poor orphan boy who faces more hardships than any child ever should. Yet, what touched me most was how his gentle and innocent nature never fades, no matter how unkind the world is to him.
The book starts with Oliver in a workhouse, where life is tough and cruel. He’s just a child, but he faces so much hunger, loneliness, and unkindness. When he runs away to London, things don’t exactly get better—he ends up with Fagin and his gang of child pickpockets. But what I loved is that, despite all this darkness, Oliver’s pure heart never changes.
The characters really stood out to me. Fagin is crafty and unforgettable, Bill Sikes is honestly terrifying, and Nancy… she broke my heart with her kindness and sacrifice. And then there’s Mr. Brownlow, a reminder that good people still exist even in the harshest times.
Reading Oliver Twist made me feel a mix of emotions—sad for Oliver’s struggles, but also hopeful, because no matter what, he never loses his innocence. That’s what makes the book so special
